EAST PROVIDENCE
MYRTLE
ABOUT
Myrtle is a hybrid cocktail bar, live music venue, and vintage shop in East Providence created by co-owners Natalie Vanlandingham and Tommy Allen. The venue has delivered over 700 free performances since opening in September 2023, establishing itself as a genuine catalyst for the local arts district. The space functions as the Lower East Providence Music & Arts Society, with a mission centered on free and accessible performance.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Myrtle occupies a historic storefront that originally housed Jerry's Hollywood Shoes approximately 100 years ago. The owners preserved architectural character, including the original tin ceiling and vintage shoe displays that now form the backbar. Music programming happens nearly nightly with no cover charge. Genres span jazz and bluegrass to folk, indie rock, and soul.
HISTORY
Myrtle opened its doors in September 2023, born during the post-COVID period. The name honors Vanlandingham's great-grandmother Myrtle, who loved vintage items and crystal glassware, and also references Myrtlebank Avenue where Allen grew up. Since opening, Myrtle has evolved into a vital cultural fixture for East Providence, fostering renewed interest in the neighborhood's commercial corridors.
