FALL RIVER
NARROWS CENTER FOR THE ARTS
ABOUT
The Narrows Center for the Arts is a vibrant multi-disciplinary arts venue housed in a beautifully restored 1906 American Printing Company textile mill building in downtown Fall River. The center operates as a fully accessible non-profit with a 430-seat performance theater, two professional art galleries, eleven artist studios, and a craft brewery. The high 20-foot ceilings, spectacular views of Battleship Cove and Mount Hope Bay, and excellent acoustics create an intimate yet grand setting perfect for live performances ranging from folk and blues to rock and jazz.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Performances take place in an open, high-ceiling mill space with tables and church pews surrounding a central stage, creating an intimate club-like ambiance despite the venue's 430-seat capacity. The sound quality and acoustics are exceptional, a direct result of the 1906 mill's architectural design. The Narrows welcomes guests to bring their own food, beverages, and alcohol in bags and small coolers that fit under seats. Free parking is available on Anawan Street and in the fenced lot behind the building.
HISTORY
The Narrows Center for the Arts was founded in 1995 as a small gallery exhibition space devoted to local artists. The venue takes its name from "the Narrows," the local waterway where the North and South Watuppa Ponds converge. In 2017, a pivotal moment came when the Narrows purchased the entire mill building, tripling the available space. The center has since hosted over 2,300 concerts and 250+ art exhibitions, earning accolades including Providence/Boston Phoenix's "Best Folk Venue" multiple times.
