BLOCK ISLAND
CAPTAIN NICK'S ROCK N' ROLL BAR
ABOUT
Captain Nick's is Block Island's iconic live music venue featuring two floors, three bars, and a sun-soaked deck with island views. The timber frame was built by Captain Nick DePetrillo in 1976 using pieces salvaged from the old Block Island Inn, creating deep historical roots. The atmosphere is eclectic and inclusive—where "full tattooed septum pierced 20-somethings and a 'yachty' become friends."
WHAT TO EXPECT
The venue operates as a casual dive bar with no glassware policy, featuring both an intimate indoor stage and a renovated outdoor patio stage. The bar hosts the annual Block Island Music Festival every June, featuring over 40 live acts across 6 days with free admission and complimentary barbecue. Entertainment runs from 5pm on the outdoor stage to late night indoor shows.
HISTORY
The venue was founded by Captain Nick DePetrillo in 1976. In 2020, locals Christopher and Jessica Willi purchased the bar, with Jessica now serving as Block Island's Tourism Director. The venue's "brag wall" was created after Hurricane Sandy in 2012 from wooden remains found on nearby beaches.
