GREENWICH ODEUM
ABOUT
The Greenwich Odeum is a beautifully restored 410-seat theater on Main Street in East Greenwich. This vintage venue showcases concerts, comedy shows, and classic films in an intimate setting with historic charm. The quaint Main Street location offers over a dozen restaurants, pubs, and shops within walking distance.
HISTORY
Originally opened in 1926 as The Greenwich Theatre, the 626-seat venue began as a vaudeville house featuring acts like magicians and singers, along with newsreels and cartoons. It boasted a rare luxury for its time: air conditioning. The theater transitioned to showing movies and operated until closing in 1990. A non-profit organization renovated and renamed it the Greenwich Odeum, reopening in 1994 run entirely by volunteers. After closing in 2007 to meet new fire codes following the Station nightclub tragedy, community fundraising enabled it to reopen on January 26, 2013. Notable past performers include Todd Rundgren, Blue Oyster Cult, Louie Anderson, Hot Tuna, and The Smithereens.
