Trinity Repertory Company is Rhode Island's premier resident theater and the State Theater of Rhode Island (designated in 2014). Located in downtown Providence at the historic Lederer Theater Center, Trinity Rep is one of the most respected regional theatres in the country, featuring one of the last remaining longstanding resident acting companies in the U.S. The theater operates two spaces: the Chace Theater (500+ seats) and the Dowling Theater (300 seats), housed in the beautifully preserved Emery Majestic Theatre, a historic vaudeville performance house originally built in 1917.

Trinity Rep stages full-scale dramatic productions ranging from classic plays and contemporary works to world premieres developed specifically for the resident acting company. The theater maintains an intimate, intellectually engaged atmosphere where performances are often followed by post-show talkbacks with artists. Expect intellectually rigorous work, diverse casting, and productions that tackle contemporary social issues alongside timeless classics.

Trinity Repertory Company was founded in 1963 when a visionary group of Rhode Island citizens sought to establish a professional resident theater company. The company made history on March 14, 1964, when it opened its first production—"The Hostage" by Brendan Behan—at Trinity United Methodist Church. In 1968, Trinity Rep became the first American theater company ever to perform at the Edinburgh International Festival in Scotland. By 1981, the company received the Tony Award for Outstanding Regional Theater Company. Since then, the company has produced nearly 67 world premieres.
