SHELBURNE

Shelburne sits on Route 7 between Burlington and Vergennes, a town defined by conserved farmland, Lake Champlain shoreline, and a historic village center listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Shelburne Museum runs the Concerts on the Green series across its 45-acre campus of 39 historic buildings, hosting acts from indie rock to jazz and folk against a backdrop of Lake Champlain sunsets. The Vermont Symphony Orchestra makes an annual summer stop here as well.

This is outdoor music in an agricultural setting. The village center at the junction of Route 7, Harbor Road, and Falls Road has Federal-era architecture and a handful of shops, but the cultural weight sits on the museum grounds where 1,400-acre Shelburne Farms and the museum campus define the town's identity.

Tip: Concerts on the Green shows run from late June through August. Bring a blanket and arrive early enough to spread out on the lawn before the crowd fills in.
