BELLOWS FALLS OPERA HOUSE
ABOUT
The Bellows Falls Opera House is a 553-seat performance venue located inside Rockingham Town Hall in downtown Bellows Falls, Vermont. Seating is split between 372 on the main floor and 181 in the balcony. The opera house features one of the largest movie screens in Vermont, a full stage, and dressing rooms.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Programming spans live music, theater, comedy, film screenings, and community events. The venue serves as both a cultural and civic hub, hosting Town Meeting and Village Meeting annually. The basement includes a secondary stage known as the Lower Theater, used for smaller performances and municipal meetings.
HISTORY
The original opera house opened on September 11, 1887 with a live presentation. It was destroyed by fire on May 10, 1925. The current Rockingham Town Hall was constructed in 1926 in the Classical Revival style, featuring a distinctive six-story clock tower. A major renovation from 2004-2006 modernized the facility while preserving its historic character.
