RANDOLPH
CHANDLER CENTER FOR THE ARTS
ABOUT
Chandler Center for the Arts (historically Chandler Music Hall) is a 575-seat performance venue in downtown Randolph, Vermont, at 71 Main Street. The Romanesque-style building also includes an intimate open-loft performance space (the Esther Mesh Room) and an art gallery. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Chandler presents a diverse season of concerts, classical music, dance, theater, and community events. Named #1 Music Hall in New England by Yankee Magazine, the hall is known for its impressive acoustics. The main auditorium features a sloped wooden floor, theater boxes, a pressed metal ceiling, and a multicolored proscenium arch.
HISTORY
The music hall was built in 1907 as a gift from Colonel Albert B. Chandler, a Randolph native, who funded its construction alongside a parish house for the nearby Bethany Church. It was a popular event venue until after World War II, then declined and was turned over to the town in 1947. A 2007 capital campaign celebrating the hall's 100th anniversary completed major renovations and an addition with new offices.
