BURLINGTON
FLYNN CENTER FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS
ABOUT
The Flynn Center for the Performing Arts is a 1,453-seat Art Deco theater in downtown Burlington, Vermont, at 153 Main Street. The complex also includes FlynnSpace, a flexible black-box venue seating 110-220 depending on configuration. It serves as Burlington's primary performing arts presenter.
WHAT TO EXPECT
The Flynn hosts touring Broadway productions, dance companies, live music, comedy, family shows, and community events. The Amy E. Tarrant Gallery offers free rotating art exhibitions. Programming spans classical, world music, and contemporary performance, with a strong emphasis on educational and youth programming.
HISTORY
The Flynn was built in 1930 at a cost of $500,000 by entrepreneur John J. Flynn and the Queen City Realty Company. It was the first theater in New England built primarily for sound pictures. After decades as a movie house, it was restored and reopened as a performing arts center, with a full restoration completed in 2000 returning it to its Art Deco splendor.
