GREENSBORO
HIGHLAND CENTER FOR THE ARTS
ABOUT
The Highland Center for the Arts is a 26,400-square-foot multi-arts facility at 2875 Hardwick Street in Greensboro, in Vermont's Northeast Kingdom. The main theater seats up to 300 in multiple thrust-stage configurations, with a secondary 100-seat performance and cinema space. The center also includes a gallery, cafe, and outdoor terraces.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Programming spans music, theater, film, comedy, dance, and community events. The main theater is modeled after Shakespeare's Globe Theater on a smaller scale, and the facility features professional-grade acoustics and production equipment. The on-site cafe offers buffet dinners for select performances, and the gallery hosts rotating exhibitions.
HISTORY
The center grew out of the Greensboro Arts Alliance and Residency (GAAR), which staged tent-show performances beginning in 2005. Long-time Greensboro residents Andrew and Elizabeth Brown provided the lead gift for the $14 million project. The Highland Center for the Arts opened in 2017 as a year-round home for the region's arts community.
