BURLINGTON
NECTAR'S
ABOUT
Nectar's is a restaurant, bar, and live music venue at 188 Main Street in downtown Burlington. With a capacity of approximately 240, the ground-floor lounge operated as Burlington's most storied live music room for five decades. The venue is known for its gravy fries and no-frills rock club atmosphere.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Nectar's hosted a wide range of acts from reggae to rock, with midweek shows typically 18+ and weekend shows 21+. The room featured a small stage in an intimate, standing-room format with a full bar and late-night kitchen. Notable performers over the years included Phish, Grace Potter, Anais Mitchell, B.B. King, Blind Melon, and the Decemberists.
HISTORY
Nectar Rorris bought the building in 1975, converting what had been the Hi-Hat restaurant into the club that bears his name. The building was originally a savings and loan. Phish developed their following through a near-two-year residency here in the late 1980s, later titling their 1992 album *A Picture of Nectar* in tribute. The venue permanently closed in 2025 after 50 years, citing the toll of downtown construction on foot traffic.
