BENNINGTON
OLDCASTLE THEATRE COMPANY
ABOUT
Oldcastle Theatre Company is one of the longest-running professional theater companies in America, located at 331 Main Street in downtown Bennington, Vermont. The intimate theater seats approximately 130 in a converted former Knights of Columbus hall. It operates as a not-for-profit company and works with members of Actors' Equity Association and other professional guilds.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Oldcastle produces a Main Stage Season from June through October featuring new plays, contemporary hits, and classic theater. From October through May, the venue (now also branded as Bennington Theater) hosts music, comedy, improv, acting workshops, and community events. The intimate scale puts audiences in close proximity to the performers.
HISTORY
Founded in 1972 by five actors from New York City -- Eric Peterson, Gary Poe, Paul Falzone, Norrine Sims, and Joe Warik -- the company's first production was John Barton's *The Hollow Crown*. Oldcastle toured Vermont, New York, and New Jersey before taking residence at Southern Vermont College in 1977, where it stayed until 1994. The company then moved to the Bennington Center for the Arts (1994-2011) before settling at its current downtown Bennington location in 2012.
