SHELBURNE MUSEUM (CONCERTS ON THE GREEN)
ABOUT
Shelburne Museum is an art and history museum on 45 acres in Shelburne, Vermont, that hosts outdoor summer concerts on The Green, a large sloping lawn. The museum campus includes 39 distinct structures housing collections of American folk art, French Impressionist paintings, and historic New England architecture. The Pizzagalli Center auditorium seats 140 for indoor events.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Ben & Jerry's Concerts on the Green run from late June through August, featuring national headliners in a general admission lawn setting. Past performers include Bob Dylan, Bonnie Raitt, Ray LaMontagne, and Elvis Costello. Concerts are co-presented with Higher Ground and offer picnic opportunities with views of Lake Champlain at sunset.
HISTORY
Shelburne Museum was founded in 1947 by Electra Havemeyer Webb, who grew up among her parents' collection of European and Asian art but chose to celebrate American folk art and everyday objects. Mrs. Webb relocated historic buildings from throughout New England to the site, including houses, barns, a lighthouse, a covered bridge, and the 220-foot steamboat Ticonderoga. The museum houses over 150,000 works across its campus.
