ABOUT

The Vermont Jazz Center is a jazz school and concert venue located in the Cotton Mill building at 72 Cotton Mill Hill in Brattleboro. The performance hall seats approximately 250 and features a Steinway D-274 grand piano. The center combines education, workshops, and a curated concert series in an intimate setting.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Programming centers on jazz with a concert season featuring nationally and internationally recognized artists. The VJC also runs an annual summer workshop, private lessons, and educational programs. The center received a 2014 Acclaim Award from Chamber Music America for its programming and outreach.

HISTORY

Hungarian guitarist Attila Zoller founded the center as the Attila Zoller Jazz Clinics in 1974. The organization was later incorporated as the Vermont Jazz Center. In 1997, Zoller asked pianist Eugene Uman to run the center, and VJC found its permanent home at the Cotton Mill. The original space was just 132 square feet; the center now occupies 4,434 square feet.
