PROVIDENCE
COURTLAND CLUB
ABOUT
Courtland Club is an intimate 70-capacity cocktail bar, restaurant, and live music venue on Providence's West Side. The venue features a discreet entrance—no signage, just a keypad—creating an air of mystique. The space is designed as an inclusive gathering place with Greek-ish cooking from Chef Panagiota Agganis at Paula's restaurant and craft cocktails.
WHAT TO EXPECT
The club specializes in live jazz on Sundays with two seatings (6pm and 8:30pm) featuring Leland Baker & Friends—reservations sell out weeks in advance. Named "Best Jazz Venue" by Yankee Magazine and "Best Local Jazz Night" by Rhode Island Monthly. Their Sunday Jazz series performed at the 2024 Newport Jazz Festival. DJ sets most other nights.
HISTORY
The building housed multiple bakeries in the 1920s-30s, including Rhode Island's renowned Crugnale pizza strip maker. Twin baking ovens remain built into the back wall. After WWII, Italian-American social clubs occupied the space. Developer Jason Shechtman created Courtland Club to honor the building's history as a joyful gathering place.
