PROVIDENCE
THE SCURVY DOG
ABOUT
The Scurvy Dog is Providence's quintessential punk rock dive bar, a dark and eclectic space resembling "a black shoebox on the side of a Providence highway" in the Olneyville neighborhood. The bar is owned by Terry Linehan, a former member of Green Day, with a curated soundtrack spanning garage, punk, metal, blues, and rockabilly—with a firm no-pop-and-no-rap rule. The venue is notably dog-friendly, with a sprawling outdoor beer garden offering "twenty taps, forty-five bottles, forty-plus whiskeys."
WHAT TO EXPECT
Walk into a dimly lit punk rock sanctuary with black-painted ceiling beams against red walls, live band posters, pool table, and pinball machine. The parking lot hosts the annual "Parking Lot Mega Show," a free, all-day, dog-friendly music festival featuring multiple local, national, and international bands—described as "a labor of love that takes a staff of 15 people to pull off."
HISTORY
The Scurvy Dog has become a pillar of Providence's punk and local music scene. The Parking Lot Mega Show, now celebrating its 11th year, emerged as the venue's signature event, transforming the parking lot into a multi-band festival that defines the city's underground music scene.
