STONE SOUP COFFEEHOUSE
ABOUT
Stone Soup Coffeehouse is one of the oldest coffeehouse venues in New England, dedicated to presenting acoustic artists and songwriters from Rhode Island and beyond. The venue operates from The Music Mansion, a historic concert hall at 88 Meeting Street in Providence, where it has built a strong reputation for identifying and nurturing emerging talent. Stone Soup offers an intimate, community-oriented atmosphere where artists and audiences contribute to making each performance special.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Stone Soup typically hosts performances on Saturday nights from September through May, with shows beginning at 7pm and doors opening 30 minutes prior. Seating is first-come, first-served. The venue operates a plastic-free policy and welcomes patrons to bring their own mugs and containers—a distinctive environmental commitment. Refreshments are included with ticket purchases.
HISTORY
Stone Soup Coffeehouse was founded in 1981 by Rhode Island musicians and songwriters inspired by Pete Seeger's vision of community-driven folk music. The coffeehouse has launched the careers of now-renowned artists including Dar Williams, Ingrid Michaelson, Anaïs Mitchell, and Erin McKeown—all of whom performed here early in their musical development. In September 2019, Stone Soup returned to Providence after many years in Pawtucket, establishing its current home at The Music Mansion.
