PROVIDENCE
THE RED DOOR
Updated
ABOUT
The Red Door is a fully renovated, music-forward bar and restaurant located at 49 Peck Street in downtown Providence's historic district. Owner and musician Phil Martelly deliberately created this space as a destination for foodies and music lovers, having spent decades gigging while running construction and School of Rock businesses. The venue features flickering candlelit tables, angular industrial lighting, and exposed brick throughout two levels. Downstairs operates as a full-service seated restaurant, while upstairs functions as an intimate event venue.
WHAT TO EXPECT
The kitchen stays open until midnight, a significant advantage in downtown Providence where most restaurants close by 10 p.m. Music programming features dedicated Monday night jazz sessions featuring performers like Joe Potenza and Friends or Deborah Paiva and Friends (7-10 p.m.), plus weekend live acts including punk rock bands, vocalists, and DJs. The outside patio hosts Monday jazz performances.
HISTORY
The Red Door opened in late 2021 at the location of the legendary Thee Red Fez (1999-2019). Three co-owners—musician Phil Martelly, his cousin Chris Martelly, and friend Matt Dawson—purchased the building in summer 2020 during the pandemic, completely gutting and renovating the interior while preserving original red brick. The ownership's deep musical roots shaped the space as a place where musicians and music lovers feel equally at home.
