PROVIDENCE
THE STRAND BALLROOM & THEATRE
ABOUT
The Strand Ballroom & Theatre is Providence's oldest theater, a 2,100-capacity live music venue located in downtown Providence behind the Biltmore Hotel. One of only three surviving downtown theaters from the 1910-1930 era, it features distinctive Art Deco design with Corinthian pilasters and decorative parapets.
WHAT TO EXPECT
The Strand hosts national touring acts across rock, indie, hip-hop, and more. The renovated space offers excellent sightlines, a wide stage, and updated sound systems. The crowd skews young and energetic for most shows.
HISTORY
Opened June 1915 as a movie palace designed by Thomas J. Hill Pierce, the venue transformed through vaudeville, cinema, and rock concerts. After $1 million renovations in 2017, it reopened as The Strand Ballroom & Theatre. The stage has welcomed icons including Johnny Cash, Kendrick Lamar, The Strokes, Oasis, and Notorious B.I.G.
