ABOUT

Next Stage Arts is a 200-seat performing arts venue housed in a historic 1841 former church in the village center of Putney, Vermont. The facility includes a state-of-the-art performance hall, a dance floor, green room, commercial-grade kitchen, art gallery, and community rooms. It is the only multi-discipline, year-round arts presenter in the area.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Programming spans live music, theater, film screenings, dance, lectures, and community events. The venue's origins as a church give it notable natural acoustics well-suited to both amplified and acoustic performances. Next Stage also hosts educational programs and collaborates with regional arts organizations across southeastern Vermont.

HISTORY

Next Stage Arts was founded in 2010 after two fires devastated the Putney village center, including the historic Putney General Store. A group of community members formed the organization to convert the deteriorating church into an accessible performance venue. In 2016, Next Stage completed a $1.8 million renovation that transformed the space into a fully accessible, modern venue while preserving the building's architectural character.
