OLD SAYBROOK

Old Saybrook occupies the west bank of the Connecticut River where it empties into Long Island Sound. The town's connection to Katharine Hepburn runs deep — her family summered in the Borough of Fenwick starting in 1912, and the performing arts center bearing her name opened on Main Street in 2009.

The Kate hosts live music, comedy, and classical performances in a 250-seat theater that doubles as a museum of Hepburn's life and career. You can browse letters, costumes, and memorabilia before a show.

A shoreline town where lighthouses outnumber traffic lights. Over 100 homes carry historic designations, and the seasonal calendar fills with outdoor concerts on the Town Green.

Tip: Dinner in Old Saybrook Center before a show at The Kate is a short walk — the Main Street corridor keeps things close.
