TORRINGTON
Torrington anchors northwest Connecticut's Litchfield County, a former manufacturing center now organized around a downtown historic district listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1988.
Warner Theatre, an Art Deco movie palace designed by Thomas W. Lamb and opened by Warner Brothers in 1931, is the largest performing arts center in northwest Connecticut. Saved from demolition by local citizens in the early 1980s and fully restored by 2002, it now hosts over 160 performances a year.
Main Street runs through the 56-acre Downtown Torrington Historic District, with the Warner Theatre as its centerpiece. The surrounding neighborhoods — Burrville, Drakeville, Torringford — retain a rural edge that drops off quickly from the commercial core.
Tip: Warner Theatre seats 1,772 and draws from across Litchfield County — parking fills up for weekend headliners, so arrive early or check their site for lot locations.
