CAFE NINE
ABOUT
Cafe Nine is an intimate live music venue and bar located at 250 State Street in New Haven, Connecticut. The corner-lot space has a capacity of approximately 140 people and features a stage, brick interior walls, and a full bar. It operates as both a neighborhood bar and a dedicated music venue with programming seven nights a week.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Cafe Nine hosts a wide range of genres including indie rock, punk, jazz, experimental, and DJ nights. The venue runs a weekly Tuesday Night Jazz Jam and Saturday Afternoon Jazz Jam alongside evening concerts. The small room creates a close, high-energy environment, and confirmation emails serve as tickets for all events.
HISTORY
The building at 250 State Street dates to the early 1880s and has operated as various businesses including a produce store, a barber supply company, and a shot-and-beer bar called Blubartz Cafe. The current incarnation as Cafe Nine began when Michael Reichbart renovated the space, expanded the stage, and renamed it. In 2003, Paul Mayer and a group of friends purchased the venue and ran it for 20 years, solidifying its reputation as a cornerstone of New Haven's music scene. The venue was sold to new ownership in 2023.
