NEW HAVEN
FIREHOUSE 12
ABOUT
Firehouse 12 is a combined recording studio and live music performance space at 45 Crown Street in New Haven. The facility features a 1,200-square-foot Live Room with three isolation booths, designed by renowned acoustician John Storyk and architects Gray Organschi Architecture. The space also includes a cafe. Equipment includes a 9-foot Steinway Hamburg Model D concert grand piano, Hammond organs, and vintage keyboards.
WHAT TO EXPECT
The venue is known primarily for its jazz series, which presents live performances in an acoustically engineered room designed to professional recording standards. Shows are often recorded live on-site using the studio's API Legacy Plus console and Studer A827 tape machine. The intimate setting places audiences directly in a working studio environment. The jazz series runs seasonally.
HISTORY
Firehouse 12 was established as a unique hybrid venue combining a world-class recording studio with an intimate performance space. The recording rooms were meticulously renovated in 2022 with the Storyk/Gray Organschi redesign. The Firehouse 12 Records label releases recordings captured live in the space, and the venue has become an important stop on the creative jazz touring circuit.
