CHESTER
NORMA TERRIS THEATRE
ABOUT
The Norma Terris Theatre is Goodspeed Musicals' second stage, located at 33 North Main Street in Chester, Connecticut. The intimate venue is dedicated to the development of new musicals, serving as a workshop and tryout space for productions that may transfer to the main Goodspeed Opera House or other stages.
WHAT TO EXPECT
The Terris Theatre presents new and developing musicals in an intimate setting, offering audiences a first look at works in progress. Programming complements the Goodspeed Opera House season, and the theater shares the same box office and subscription infrastructure. Goodspeed's new SummerSong youth program culminates with performances at the Terris.
HISTORY
Opened in 1984 by Goodspeed Musicals for the development of new works, the theater is named in honor of actress Norma Terris, who starred in the original 1927 production of *Show Boat* and later served as a patron and trustee of the Goodspeed Opera House.
ABOUT
Goodspeed Musicals announced a temporary pause in productions at the Terris Theatre for 2026. The last show was *The Great Emu War* in October 2025. The organization is rethinking how to operate the space as a self-sustaining venue. The main Goodspeed Opera House in East Haddam is unaffected.
