ABOUT

The Ridgefield Playhouse is a 500-seat performing arts venue located at 80 East Ridge Road in Ridgefield, Connecticut. The nonprofit venue presents a diverse season of over 200 events annually across music, comedy, film screenings, theater, and family programming. The intimate seating configuration provides excellent sightlines from every seat in the house.

WHAT TO EXPECT

The Ridgefield Playhouse programs across multiple curated series including rock, jazz, Broadway/cabaret, classical, comedy, country/bluegrass, singer-songwriter, and world music. The venue also screens Met Opera HD broadcasts and National Theatre Live presentations. Recent performers include Rosanne Cash, Jon Lovitz, Matisyahu, and Seth Meyers. The programming reflects Ridgefield's affluent and culturally engaged community.

HISTORY

The Ridgefield Playhouse opened in December 2000 with a performance by guitarist Jose Feliciano. The venue was remodeled from the former Ridgefield High School auditorium, which was designed in the 1940s by Cass Gilbert Jr. During World War II, the space hosted performances by conductor Arturo Toscanini for local residents. The building served as the site of school performances, community events, and town meetings before its transformation into a dedicated performing arts center.
