HARTFORD
PEOPLESBANK ARENA
ABOUT
PeoplesBank Arena is a 16,294-seat multi-purpose arena and convention center located in downtown Hartford, Connecticut. Formerly known as the XL Center and originally the Hartford Civic Center, the venue is one of the largest indoor arenas in New England. The arena complex includes convention and exhibition space in addition to the main performance bowl.
WHAT TO EXPECT
The arena hosts major touring concerts, family shows, sporting events, and conventions. It is the home venue of the Hartford Wolf Pack (AHL) and has hosted UConn Huskies men's and women's basketball games. The venue books arena-scale touring acts and events that require large-capacity indoor spaces.
HISTORY
The original Hartford Civic Center opened on January 9, 1975 and has undergone multiple name changes reflecting sponsorship deals. The arena's roof famously collapsed under the weight of snow and ice on January 18, 1978, leading to a complete rebuild that was completed in 1980. The venue was renamed the XL Center in 2007 and became PeoplesBank Arena as part of a naming rights agreement.
