BATH
Bath is a shipbuilding city on the Kennebec River with a cultural life centered on the Chocolate Church Arts Center, a community performing arts venue that has served midcoast Maine for over four decades. The historic downtown along Front Street and Washington Street maintains the character of a working river town.
The Chocolate Church Arts Center on Washington Street presents live music spanning folk, Americana, rock tributes, jazz, and bluegrass, along with theater, dance, and arts education programs. Main Street Bath partners with the center to run free Waterfront Concert Series along the Kennebec River during summer months.
Bath retains an honest, working-class identity shaped by Bath Iron Works and the shipbuilding tradition. The arts scene here is community-driven and unpretentious, with an emphasis on accessible pricing and programming for all ages.
Tip: The Chocolate Church is on Washington Street, a short walk from Front Street's shops and restaurants. Summer waterfront concerts are free.
