FARMINGTON
Farmington is a university town in western Maine where the Narrow Gauge Amphitheater has become a live music destination through the Whistlestop Concert Series. The indoor and outdoor venues at Narrow Gauge Cinemas host festivals, touring acts, and comedy shows against a backdrop of mountains and open fields on the edge of downtown.
The Narrow Gauge Amphitheater on Narrow Gauge Square operates as both an indoor music venue with professional sound and lighting, and an outdoor stage with a drive-in screen. The Whistlestop Concert Series books folk, indie, and rock acts, and the Sandy River Music Festival and Under the Oaks Festival draw multi-day crowds in summer. The Big Sky Grill on site serves wood-fired pizza and gelato.
Farmington has the energy of a small college town (University of Maine at Farmington) with a growing music scene that punches above its weight. The festivals and concert series bring a weekend-destination quality to a town that might otherwise fly under the radar.
Tip: Narrow Gauge is at 123 Narrow Gauge Square. Summer festivals sell out — buy tickets early for Sandy River and Under the Oaks.
