Augusta Civic Center is a convention center and arena located at 76 Community Drive in Augusta, Maine. The facility has a total of 49,000 square feet and 26 rooms, with the main auditorium providing 32,000 square feet and a capacity of 5,099 seats. Its largest venue is the Hammond Lumber Auditorium.
WHAT TO EXPECT
The center hosts concerts, sporting events, trade shows, conventions, and community gatherings. Sporting events include basketball, cheerleading, dance, boxing, and wrestling. It serves as a primary venue for the Maine State High School Basketball tournament each February. The facility includes two ballrooms and 23 meeting rooms with full catering services.
HISTORY
The Augusta Civic Center opened on January 6, 1973, with construction funded by the city at a cost of $3 million. Elvis Presley performed there on May 24, 1977, during his spring tour. The Grateful Dead played three shows there between 1979 and 1984. Slayer filmed their 2004 live performance DVD at the venue. Pearl Jam performed there on September 26, 1996, during which Dennis Rodman joined Eddie Vedder onstage.
