ABOUT
Aura is a concert venue and event space in Portland, Maine, with a capacity of approximately 1,000. The multi-level facility includes a main concert floor, a balcony with seating for 144 and additional standing room, a downstairs venue, a VIP lounge, and a pre-function space. The total building area is 24,500 square feet.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Aura hosts live music spanning rock, country, electronic, hip-hop, pop, funk, jazz, and heavy metal. The venue includes a full sports grill and bar with multiple flat screens. Weekly dance nights and private events occupy the downstairs space. The balcony provides elevated viewing for concerts.
HISTORY
Aura opened in April 2017 following a $9.1 million demolition and rebuild of the former Asylum nightclub, which had operated at the location since 1997. The expansion doubled the concert capacity from the old Asylum to approximately 1,000. The existing 1960s building was expanded both horizontally and vertically. The project was designed by WBRC Architects Engineers.
