HISTORY
The Opera House was built in 1894 in 70 days by local tradesmen, primarily shipbuilders. It was designed by prominent Portland architects Francis H. Fassett and his son Edward F. Fassett as a meeting hall for the Knights of Pythias. The first floor was leased to the town for meetings and cultural events, while the second floor housed meeting spaces for the Knights of Pythias and the Masons. The building has since been converted to its current use as a dedicated performance and community arts venue.
