CELEBRATION BARN

ABOUT

Celebration Barn is an 82-seat performing arts venue located on an eleven-acre campus in South Paris, in the Oxford Hills region of Maine. The venue specializes in physical theater, clown, mime, and movement-based performance. It serves as both a performance space and a training center for physical theater artists.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Programming includes a Show Series bringing touring physical theater artists to local audiences, plus workshops in clown, bouffon, devising, and professional development. The Barn also runs a Theater in Schools program and community-based initiatives. Since 2020, workshops have also been offered online, serving artists from over 25 countries.

HISTORY

Celebration Barn Theater was founded in 1972 by Tony Montanaro, a world-renowned mime performer and teacher who moved from Woodstock, New York to Maine. The property was a former horse farm purchased in 1971. For over two decades, Montanaro's Celebration Mime Ensemble used the Barn as home base while touring. Montanaro passed away in 2002. David Bruin became executive artistic director in 2021.
