It is the home of the Bangor Symphony Orchestra, the oldest continually-operating community orchestra in the United States, founded in 1896. UMaine performing arts groups are also based there.
HISTORY
The Collins Center has been operating since 1986, originally named the Maine Center for the Arts. It closed in August 2007 for an 18-month renovation and reopened in February 2009. It was renamed the Collins Center for the Arts in honor of donors Richard R. and Anne A. Collins following a $6 million gift. The center also houses the Hudson Museum, an anthropology museum.
