Cross Insurance Arena is a multi-purpose arena in Portland, Maine, with 6,206 permanent seats and a concert capacity of up to 9,500. The arena floor provides 34,500 square feet of space, making it suitable for concerts, sports, trade shows, and conventions.
WHAT TO EXPECT
The arena is home to the Maine Mariners of the ECHL and hosts touring concerts, comedy, wrestling, family shows, and hockey. The venue features 30 separated sections of seating rising 24 rows high. It also serves as alternate home ice for Maine Black Bears men's hockey.
HISTORY
Originally called the Cumberland County Civic Center, the arena was built in 1977 at a cost of $8 million and designed by architect Eduardo Catalano. ZZ Top was the first headline act on March 3, 1977. The arena underwent a $33 million renovation completed in February 2014, adding premium seating and expanding the facility by 34,000 square feet. It was renamed Cross Insurance Arena in June 2014.
