Good Theater is a professional theater company currently in residence at Stevens Square Theater within the Stevens Square Community Center in Portland. The new venue offers flexible seating configurations from 100 to 450 seats in a renovated auditorium. Good Theater is Maine's largest employer of theater artists.
WHAT TO EXPECT
The company produces a Main Stage series of plays along with a New York Cabaret Series featuring Broadway performers. Programming leans toward comedies, musicals, and cabarets with accessible pricing including $10 student and under-30 tickets. All seating is general admission.
HISTORY
Good Theater was founded in 2001 by Brian P. Allen and Stephen Underwood. For 21 years, the company was theater-in-residence at The Hill Arts (formerly St. Lawrence Arts Center) on Portland's Munjoy Hill, performing in a 100-seat space. In 2024, the company announced its move to Stevens Square, and performances began at the new location in spring 2025.
