OGUNQUIT

LEAVITT THEATRE

ABOUT

The Leavitt Theatre is a historic theater built in 1923 as a silent film house, located at 259 Main Street in Ogunquit, Maine. The venue seats 636 with near-perfect acoustics and still features its original seats and sloped wooden floor. It now operates as a restaurant, cocktail bar, and live entertainment venue with a full seasonal schedule.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Programming includes live music, comedy, jazz, drag, burlesque, and film screenings throughout the summer season. The annual LeavittFest music festival showcases over 100 musicians across 4 days. The beautifully renovated space pairs a dinner restaurant and cocktail bar with the entertainment lineup.

HISTORY

The first film shown at the Leavitt was Dante's Inferno. Peter Clayton purchased the theater in 1976, and his son Max took over operations in 2017. The projector booth was overhauled in 2003, and the original 600 seats have been reupholstered over the years while preserving their character. The theater celebrated its 100th anniversary in recent years.
