MAD HORSE THEATRE
ABOUT
Mad Horse Theatre Company is a professional theater ensemble operating out of a 50-seat black box theater in the historic Hutchins School at 24 Mosher Street in South Portland. The company holds a lease with the city of South Portland for the building. The intimate black box format places the audience on three sides of the stage.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Mad Horse produces cutting-edge contemporary plays focused on areas of social concern and personal transformation. Programming includes a mainstage season of dramatic works plus Dark Horse Nights, a series of special events. The small venue creates an intense, close-quarters theatrical experience distinct from larger Portland-area stages.
HISTORY
Mad Horse Theatre Company was founded in 1986 in Portland as a professional resident theater ensemble. After performing in various venues for over two decades, the company secured a lease on the Hutchins School building in 2009 from the city of South Portland. The company was previously associated with Lucid Stage on Baxter Boulevard in Portland, which closed in 2012.
