MAINE STATE MUSIC THEATRE

Maine State Music Theatre (MSMT) is a professional musical theater company based at Pickard Theater on the Bowdoin College campus in Brunswick, Maine. The 598-seat proscenium theater, located in Memorial Hall, features a full fly system and computer lighting. MSMT produces a summer season of musicals and a concert series.

MSMT presents four fully staged musicals each summer along with a concert series and a Theatre for Young Audiences series. Productions are Equity-level with professional casts. The intimate theater setting provides close audience-to-stage proximity. The company also operates MSMT Costumes, renting original costume packages to other theaters.

Founded by Victoria (Vicki) Crandall as Brunswick Music Theatre in 1959, the company opened with a production of *Song of Norway*. In 1988, it was renamed Maine State Music Theatre to reflect statewide influence. The Pickard Theater was a 1955 gift from Frederick William Pickard to Bowdoin College. MSMT is one of the few remaining professional companies in New England that exclusively produces musical theatre. The 2020 season was canceled due to the pandemic, the first cancellation in the company's history.
