BRUNSWICK
PICKARD THEATER (BOWDOIN COLLEGE)
ABOUT
Pickard Theater is a 600-seat proscenium theater located inside Memorial Hall on the Bowdoin College campus in Brunswick. The theater features a full fly system and computer lighting within a striking Gothic-style granite and stained glass building. It serves as the summer home of Maine State Music Theatre (MSMT).
WHAT TO EXPECT
During summer months, MSMT produces professional musical theater at Pickard. During the academic year, the theater hosts Bowdoin College performing arts events including theater, dance, and music performances. The proscenium stage is comparable in scale to professional regional theaters.
HISTORY
Memorial Hall was built in 1882 as a campus building for Bowdoin College. The theater was a gift from Frederick William Pickard in 1955 and was installed within the existing hall. A complete remodeling of the main theater took place in 2000, updating the facilities while preserving the historic character of the building.
