HISTORY

Portland Stage was founded in 1974 as the Profile Theatre, a touring company of young theater professionals. Portland became its permanent home in 1976, and the company adopted the name Portland Stage Company in 1978. It moved to its current Forest Avenue home in 1982 and became a member of LORT and TCG. In 2000, Portland Stage purchased the Portland Performing Arts Center, securing a permanent home.
