PORTLAND
THE APOHADION THEATER
ABOUT
The Apohadion Theater is a subterranean performance and exhibition space at 107 Hanover Street in Portland, Maine's Bayside neighborhood. The venue is located in the basement of a building shared by more than 25 working visual artists, writers, and musicians. It is a small, intimate room suited for up-close performances and experimental programming.
WHAT TO EXPECT
The Apohadion hosts live music, art exhibitions, theater, and experimental performance. Genres range widely, with a focus on indie, punk, noise, experimental, and DIY touring acts. The rotating art gallery changes frequently, and the overall atmosphere is grassroots and artist-driven.
HISTORY
The theater has been operating since 2017, when a collective of artists renovated the basement space into a functioning venue. It functions as a non-traditional, grassroots performance space with a rotating cast of bookers. The Apohadion received a Kindling Fund grant from SPACE Gallery to support its programming.
