THE HILL ARTS
ABOUT
The Hill Arts is a nonprofit performing arts center at 76 Congress Street on Munjoy Hill in Portland, Maine. The existing Parish Hall Theater seats approximately 100 and occupies the former parish hall of the historic St. Lawrence Church, built in 1897. A new 400-seat theater complex is under construction on the adjacent lot.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Programming includes live theater, music, comedy, and community events. The venue hosts more than twenty creative partners and collaborates with the Munjoy Hill Neighborhood Organization and East End Community School. Events are affordable and accessible, serving both the arts community and neighborhood residents.
HISTORY
The venue began operating in 2001 as St. Lawrence Arts Center, offering concerts, plays, and musicals in the parish hall. The organization rebranded to The Hill Arts in June 2023. The original St. Lawrence Church was demolished after years of structural decline, and the new 400-seat venue is being built on that footprint with a target opening in 2027.
