ABOUT
Theater at Monmouth (TAM) is a professional Shakespeare theater performing in Cumston Hall, a 250-seat jewel-box proscenium theater with orchestra and balcony seating in Monmouth. Cumston Hall is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and features Romanesque Revival architecture with over 100 stained glass windows. TAM was designated the Shakespearean Theater of Maine by the State Legislature in 1975.
WHAT TO EXPECT
TAM presents a three-month summer repertory season of Shakespeare and classic plays performed by professional actors. Over its history, the company has presented more than 390 productions including 28 world premieres. Programming includes innovative approaches to Shakespeare alongside other classic and contemporary works.
HISTORY
The Theater at Monmouth was founded in 1970. Cumston Hall, its home, was built in 1898 and features elaborate architectural details including molded trim, clustered columns, and a soaring tower. TAM has operated continuously for over 55 seasons, making it one of Maine's longest-running professional theater companies.
