THOMPSON'S POINT
ABOUT
Thompson's Point is an outdoor entertainment venue on a promontory in the Libbytown neighborhood of Portland, Maine, on the northern banks of the Fore River. The venue offers a scalable capacity of approximately 3,000 to 6,000 depending on event configuration. Multiple event spaces include Brick South and The Depot Pavilion.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Thompson's Point hosts the State Theatre Summer Concert Series, outdoor festivals, markets, weddings, and corporate events. In winter, The Thompsons Point Rink provides ice skating. The waterfront setting offers views of the Fore River. Concerts typically run during summer months.
HISTORY
Thompson's Point served as a port for the Cumberland and Oxford Canal in the 19th century and later as a train repair and storage facility for the Maine Central Railroad. Several historic brick structures remain from that era. It was redeveloped as an entertainment destination, with the Children's Museum & Theatre of Maine relocating there in 2020. The site is located about 1.7 miles southwest of downtown Portland.
