WATERVILLE OPERA HOUSE
ABOUT
Waterville Opera House is an 810-seat performing arts venue located in a historic Colonial Revival civic building at Castonguay Square in downtown Waterville. The building houses both the opera house and Waterville City Hall, with municipal offices on the lower floors and the performance space occupying the upper levels. It is the largest facility of its kind in Central Maine.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Programming includes community theater productions, nationally touring musicians and comedians, educational school shows, and youth theater camps. The venue also hosts concerts ranging from tribute acts to nationally known artists. The auditorium features original Baroque plasterwork and a painted curtain.
HISTORY
The building was designed by George G. Adams of Lawrence, Massachusetts and built between 1898 and 1902. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976. The opera house completed a major renovation in 2012 and is now operated by Waterville Creates, the local arts organization.
