LENOX
Lenox is a Berkshires town synonymous with Tanglewood, the summer home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. The town's cultural identity is inseparable from this world-renowned music festival.
Tanglewood hosts the Boston Symphony Orchestra each July and August, along with popular music concerts, the Tanglewood Music Center fellowship program, and the annual Tanglewood Jazz Festival. The 5,000-seat Koussevitzky Music Shed and the smaller Seiji Ozawa Hall anchor the campus. Shakespeare & Company presents classical and contemporary theater from its campus on Kemble Street.
Tanglewood is a pilgrimage. On lawn nights, you will find thousands of people picnicking on the grounds while the BSO performs. The experience is unlike any other music venue in the state — pastoral, communal, and world-class.
Tip: Tanglewood season runs June through early September. Lawn tickets are the most affordable option — bring a blanket, food, and wine. Shakespeare & Company's season overlaps. Plan a full day in Lenox.
