CONCORD
CAPITOL CENTER FOR THE ARTS (CHUBB THEATER)
ABOUT
Capitol Center for the Arts is an entertainment venue in Concord, New Hampshire, featuring the Chubb Theatre, a 1,304-seat theater designed with a distinctive Egyptian motif. The center is located in downtown Concord and serves as the region's primary performing arts destination.
WHAT TO EXPECT
The Chubb Theatre hosts Broadway touring shows, concerts, comedy, dance, and speaker events. Past performers include Billy Joel (via the musical Movin' Out), pianist George Winston, and humorist David Sedaris. The venue features modernized heating, air conditioning, handicapped accessibility including an elevator, and a computerized box office.
HISTORY
The original Capitol Theatre operated on this site from 1927 to 1989. A multi-year renovation funded by $4.2 million in donations — with Chubb Life as the largest benefactor — led to the center reopening in November 1995. The Chubb Theatre was named in recognition of Chubb Life's support. In 2019, the organization opened a second venue, the Bank of New Hampshire Stage, at 16 South Main Street in Concord.
