BETHLEHEM
Bethlehem is a small White Mountains village that was once the premier summer resort destination in the Northeast, with over 30 hotels and four daily train arrivals in its heyday. That era left behind one of the oldest continuously operating movie theaters in the country.
The Colonial Theatre Bethlehem, built in 1915 in the Egyptian Revival style, programs films, live music, and cultural events year-round. Listed on the New Hampshire State Register of Historic Places, it serves as the arts anchor for this stretch of Route 302 through the northern White Mountains.
Bethlehem has a quiet, artistic character shaped by its small population and the creative community that has settled in the area. The Colonial Theatre operates as a nonprofit, and shows here feel like community events. The setting along Main Street in a mountain village gives the experience a character that larger venues cannot match.
Tip: The Colonial Theatre is at 2050 Main Street. Check their calendar for film screenings, live music nights, and special events.
