SNOW POND CENTER FOR THE ARTS
ABOUT
Snow Pond Center for the Arts is a campus-based arts and education facility located in Sidney, Maine, on the shores of Lake Messalonskee. The campus includes multiple performance venues: The Bowl in the Pines amphitheater and Alumni Hall. The Bowl was originally built in the 1930s and renovated in 2020, with a full stage measuring 100 feet wide by 48 feet deep.
WHAT TO EXPECT
The center hosts public concerts, summer camps, and educational programming. The Bowl's outdoor setting among pines with lakeside acoustics provides a distinctive concert experience. Programming ranges from touring national acts to community gatherings and recitals.
HISTORY
The site originated as Eastern Music Camp in 1930. In 1937, Paul Wiggin took over the camp. The amphitheater stage was one of the largest outdoor stages on the east coast when built. John Wiggin, grandson of the founder, became executive director in 2010 and led a major expansion. The Bowl renovation was completed in fall 2020 with capacity expanded to accommodate up to 7,500 guests.
